Organization FAQs
So what's this all about? What will my organization's website look like once I'm done?
Before you start building a home for your organization on the web, we welcome you to view Funds Fur Friends as an example site.
Setting up your account
First, your organization will need to determine who will be its Organization Leader for posting to Chattypet. You may read more about the role of the Organization Leader on our terms page. To sign up, the Organization Leader can click here or on the "Join Today" link in the "Login or Join" box on the Home page. Once you have submitted your information, click on "add organization" in the top right corner.
Why do you need to know all this information about me?
The personal information that you, the Organization Leader, provide helps Chattypet monitor
our site in such a way as to abide by our privacy policy and terms of use. It
helps us make the site a better place by letting us know who is using our
community. Unlike your personal information, your organization's information can be viewed by the public so that
everyone can easily contact you.
The personally identifiable information that you, the Organization Leader, provide
will never be shared with a third party, nor is it viewable by anyone using the
Chattypet website.
(However, please note that the public will have access to your organization's information.)
So where exactly on the web is my new site located? What's my url?
After you have set up an account for your organization, you'll be directed to your new site! Check out your new home on the web, your url! The alias you provided within your organizational information should appear after the backslash.
Creating your site
Can I incorporate my organization’s logo within my new site?
- Sure! Simply click on the “add logo” button located at the top-left corner of your site. Please be sure to upload only jpeg or gif files. If you try to upload your logo as a Word doc or pdf, it will not work.
How can I change the color and design of my site?
- Click on the colored squares at the top of your site. Each square correlates to different colors and designs. Check back soon for more squares and more ways to personalize!
- You can edit your “Welcome” and “About” messages by clicking on the respective “edit” buttons on your homepage. Also make sure to check out the calendar, where you can post upcoming events in your community or organization by simply clicking on a date. A blog is also a great way to keep everyone updated- just click on “post to blog” and start typing away!
- Follow the “contact us” button located on your homepage. This is where all your contact information is listed. Users can fill out the form and send you a quick e-mail.
Why is there a “Donate” button on my homepage?
- All animal rescues eligible for donations must be non-profit, tax-exempt IRC 501(3)(3) organizations. Contact us if you meet this criteria and would like to add the “donate” option on your site.
Do you have any guidelines as to what I can put on my site?
- Yes we do. Please read our Community Guidelines for Organizations. You may also read our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
Showing-off your pet
How do I add a pet?
- On your homepage, click on the “add pet” box under “Pets.” Fill out the form.
What's the deal with entering my pet's breed and species?
- To accommodate all of the different types of pets, we allow breeds and species to be added. To help prevent misspellings, we use autocomplete to suggest options already being used in the Chattypet community. For example, species may be dog and breed may be beagle. If there is no breed, that is OK. A forthcoming feature is to allow multiple breeds to be identified.
I don't know my pet's birthday - help!
- Don't worry! You can either leave this field blank, or guess an approximate year (leaving the month and day portion blank).
What are tags?
- Tags are a neat way for you to categorize your pet and for people to find you. For example, you may benefit with using tags such as “spayed” or “prefers home without cats” for your adoptable pets.
How do others know that my pet is an adoptable pet?
- When Chattypet community members view your pet’s profile, they’ll see an “adopt me” tag in the upper-right corner. They will be able to contact you with questions concerning this pet by clicking on the button.
What is an alpha pet and how do I change alpha pets?
- Your "Alpha Pet" is your main pet. For example, if you have three pets, you may personify only one pet at a time and the pet you are "acting as" is your "Alpha Pet." To change alpha pets, go into your “litter” and find the pet you would like to become. Click on the button below your pet’s picture that enables you to “be” your pet.
How do you edit pets after you add them? And, more specifically, how can I edit my pet’s profile?
- To edit pets after you add them, simply login and then click on the
"litter" tab at the top of the screen. That will open up your "litter" of pets and
then you can select which ones to edit, delete, etc. To change the profile of a certain pet, you may "become your pet" by designating it as alpha pet (see above). Now you can view your pet’s profile and click on “edit profile.”
How do I add more pictures of my pet?
- First, your pet must be the alpha pet (see above). Now you can view your pet’s profile, click on “My Gallery,” and click “Add Picture.” Browse for a desired picture and click “upload.” Again, please be sure to upload only jpeg or gif files. If you try to upload your picture as a Word doc or pdf, it will not work.
Chatting with other pets
Just because you’re part of an organization, doesn’t mean you can’t join our chatty community! Become your pet!
- You can post a comment on any pet's profile. Just type your message in the "Comment" box and click "Add." It's that simple.
How do I delete a comment or tag off my profile?
- When you are logged in, just view you're pet's profile and you'll notice an 'x' next to the tag or comment. Just click it, and it will be deleted.
How can I check for new messages?
- When you log in as your pet, you will notice a chirping bird graphic in the upper right hand corner of the page if you have a new message. Click it to read the message.
- View the profile of the pet you want to send a message to and click the "Send Message" link underneath that pet's picture.
How can I post a blog for an individual pet (not for my organization)?
- When you are logged in viewing your pet's profile, click the "My Blog" link underneath your pet's picture, and you will be able to add a blog. You can also edit or delete existing blog posts once you are on your blog page.
How do I get notified about new friend requests?
- When your pet logs into Chattypet, you will see a turtle graphic in
the upper right hand corner of the page if your pet has any new friend
requests. Click the turtle to go to your pet's Message area to confirm or
deny the friendship request.
How can I make a new friend?
- If you are viewing a profile and want to be friends with the pet
whose profile you are viewing, click the "Add to Friends" graphic
beside that pet's picture. That pet will receive your request and
either approve or deny it.
How do I delete a friend?
- When your pet is logged on, "delete friend" appears underneath all
of your friends. You can just click this link to remove the friend from
your friends list.
Non-profit organizations
How can others donate to my cause?
- All animal rescues eligible for donations must be non-profit, tax-exempt IRC 501(3)(3) organizations. Contact us if you meet this criteria and would like to add the “donate” option on your site.
Where can I find more resources for tax-exempt animal rescues?
