Schatzi
Posted by Freckles on February 11, 2008, 11:56 pmMom named the new rescue girl Schatzi. Schatzi is German and it means "Sweetheart". She came in on Sunday. She is a sad little thing. When she sees a leash, she cowers and cringes. She closes her eyes and waits for the leash to strike her.
It makes me sad. I don't know how anyone can look into the trusting eyes of a dog and cause them pain.
When Schatzi cringes, I see Mom get sad too.
"What happened to you?" I asked her.She told me she had a cruel master, who would beat her with a leash if she made a mistake. She said she finally escaped, and was caught and put into a terrible pound. She was lucky though, because a very kind lady named Katja who volunteers there saw her. She took her picture, and sent it to Mom.

She told Mom "This little girl has less than a week, and the warden will kill her. Can you help us save her?"
Mom saw those sad brown eyes, and couldn't help but say "Yes, we will help her." and two days later, Schatzi came to our house. Katja and her husband drove Schatzi to Fargo, and Auntie Brenda picked her up and drove her to Grand Forks. That is where Mom and Uncle Brian picked her up.
Schatzi shakes a lot. When she gets into Mom's car, she shakes so hard her legs almost give out. Some things scare her a lot. Mom says time heals all wounds.
I know it is true, because I am a happy dog now.
