Heart Doggie!
A friend of mine shared this article with me and I flipped out! Chihuahua puppy born with love-heart pattern in fur! Wow! What a coat! This little sweetie is going to be the talk of the town! Isn't natural fashion fun? I hope that doesn't cause one pet to get more love than another, though. I have a pack-friend who lives with me who is really homely looking, but she has a heart of gold and a work-ethic that can't be beat! She serves to be a harmonious pack-member and we all appreciate that. It's not what's on the outside, but what's on the inside. However, maybe this Chihuahua's outsides can serve to help other animals gain the respect and appreciation they deserve. Us pets have a lot to offer people in terms of helping them to have healthier lives - and Mr. Cuddles here is all about that! I hope you enjoy the news story about Heartsy!

Sad News

Back to being a reporter, after my brief jaunt as a poet, I have sad news to share.

Steve Irwin, the "crock jock" or otherwise known as "Corckodile Hunter" is now dead.  A stingray pierced his heart.  Apparently it was the pulling out of the stingray's barbed tail that did it.  Ouch.  I feel so very sad about this.  For some reason, although he was a controversial guy messing with wild animals like he did, I still liked him for calling attention to animals.  I think if more people were sensitive and knowledgable about all animals, wild and domestic, the world would be a calmer, more contented place.

Steve's website is: http://www.crocodilehunter.com/ but I cannot seem to get it to load; perhaps too many people are currently trying to access it to try and figure out how to pay their respects. Eternity be with you, Steve.

Waxing Poetic
Today I was feeling rather creative.  I honestly believe that people frequently do not understand how sensitive we pets are.  I mean, I have emotions, can sense the quality of people's souls and auras, and am capable of giving love and attention when my guardian needs it most.  I talk with me eyes and head, and tail of course!  I motion to do this, or wag a certain way to do that.  People who understand my body language call me a chatterbox!  I can be in your face, that's for sure!

Anyway, as for my creative spell (as I am diverting from being a reporter this week), I learned about chakras and also got a lot of insight from my guardian when she read Animals as Teachers and Healers  - see the author's website: http://www.susanchernakmcelroy.com/. So, with this new information, I wrote my first poem.  I am curious as to what other chattypets think.

title: afterlife

core being

souls

gifts of intuition

animals' sensitivities

pet auras

chakras

like rainbows

overlapping from different animals, stages

different colors

at any one time

all connected

arrays

together

white light

death?

profound peace

What's in the News Today
I dream of being a reporter.  Like a journalist - a dog who can roam and write and tell all of the companion animals and their guardians what is up from a pet's point of view.  Since the world won't let me roam free (it would if I could find my way home, stay our of harm's way, and not get distracted), I'll have to practice journalism via commenting on what people have ot say about pets.  Here's a recent story for me to comment on: "Katrina Pet Rescue Ends Up in Court."  Can you believe this?  There was a terrible, terrible hurricane in New Orleans, Louisiana last fall - in 2005.  A lot of us pets had to be left behind in our homes.  Of course we were scared.  If I hear thunder and lightening when I'm with my people I'm scared, so imagine hearing it all by yourself, alone in a dark house.  Plus, us dogs are generally very keen to sense danger.  We sense it in the weather and through people.  We know when people are scared and that just makes most dogs more scared.  I'll have to give some of my friends credit - they can really take care of scared people but me, I just get more scared.  So, anyway, long story short here - after the storm passed and many pets were left hungry and without their people and facing rising water, some really kind people put a lot of volunteer time into helping rescue the stranded pets that were left behind in the storm.  Two female dogs were rescued and taken care of by a shelter group, but their people did not pick them up by the deadline, so they stayed at the shelter and now their people are sueing the shelter.  I think that's right - I don't know many of the details, but if you ask me - if a pet in need has a person that wants to give them the right care and quality of life that the pet needs, then by all means - let the pet be a dependent of the people (given the pet likes the people of course).  However, the real question is: what is the right care?  What is the optimal quality of life for a pet?  How do people know if their pet really likes them or if their pet is faking it to get food and shelter that they could not otherwise find?  All you chattypet's out there - what do you want?  I can tell you what I want, but if I'm ever going to be a reporter, I need something besides me to report on.  Let me know what you think.  Until then - I'll happily stretch out as long as I can make myself stretch and take a nice nap on a full-sized human bed with a ramp going up to it.  Oh, and of course I have my own pillow! [wink!]

The value of sniffing
Hi. I am a master-sniffer! I found a picture that I'd like to share with Edie - I'll put it here.
