I am a purebred beagle from a good line of hunting champions. However, I was the runt of my litter and have a condition called dwarfism, which is a skeletal condition.Because beagles are so nice and happy all the time, and because they can tolerate pain, medical professionals use us as the test dogs of choice. Thus, because beagle are subjected to so many experiements (which we do not like), veterinarians know a lot of information about our health issues - manybe more info than they know about other dog breeds.
There are a lot of places to find dog breed info, and for beagles these sites include: www.dogbreedinfo.com, and the Humane Society of the US's resource library.
Anyway, my original name was Scapper because I fought back when my brothers and sisters picked on me and rolled me around as a pup. I was adopted at age 9 months and am the first beagle in my lineage to be a housepet. I have to say, I have no desire to spend my life in a small caged kennel and only allowed to be outside when I am prepping for field trials. I am not the most cuddly dog in the world, but I do like sleeping at my guardian's feet the big bed. I have a doggie door and a big fenced yard with lots of tall grasses and weeds to raom through in the country. This gives me opportunities to hunt for little rodents occasionally. Once I did see a bunny running toward me head-on down the path and I was so confused I didn't know what it was! I had only smelled bunnies before. I had never seen one! People laughed at me, but now I know better.
I like to boss the other female beagles around at my house, so although I'm not real Alpha (Remington is), they call me Alpha Female.

Non-Allergenic Cats??
Cloning pets. Allergy-free pets. Have you ever see the 2001 movie called "Cats & Dogs"? Well, I believe it was a BEAGLE (Lou, I think his name was) that played the scent agent who helped foil the cat conspiracy. Right? The cats were conspiring to keep the scientist from discovering a cure for human's allergies to dogs.
Well, all you beagles join together now - it looks like the human scientists have been working for years on creating allergy-free cats and they may be close to having one for about $15,000 US. No, wait - I was doing some more research on this and it actually looks like they just "created" allergy-free cats 2 months ago! Is this for real? Are you beagles going to just sit back and watch? What does this mean for dogs in terms of being the #1 pet? Don't let those cats overtake us! I'm being lighthearted and maybe a bit sarcastic here, but really - do you think our humans should be spending time on this?
(I'm sure my cat friends will want me to read "Why aren't cats top dogs?")
