Hello. My name is Freckles, for obvious reasons. Mom says my birthday is December 25th, because I was a special gift to her.Blog
Well, it looks like I was not the star THIS weekend. Hmmmph. This weekend the stars were Frodo and Derby. Muna, Frodo and Derby got to go to a frisbee competition. I didn't go because I prefer flying squirrels rather than a silly plastic disc.
Derby got first place in single disc in trial one, and Frodo got first place in freestyle. I could do it if I wanted to you know. I just think it is all very silly. Who needs all those pretty ribbons anyways.
The second trial, Frodo got first place in single disc, and third in freestyle.
Mom's friend Dave took some pictures. (davemsk@hotmail.com)

I really could be a frisbee star if I wanted.
*sigh*
I guess I will just settle for being beautiful.

We went to visit Uncle Steve a few days ago. We all got to go out and play frisbee. Uncle Steve convinced me that playing frisbee was fun, but really I prefer to chase squirrels. I will never get as excited about it as the others.
Uncle Steve's furry kids are CRAZY! LOOK! The jump off his back and they fly through the air!
This is Snippy!

And this is Rojo, Snippy's daughter. They are as crazy about frisbees as I am about squirrels!
I just don't get it...they are not furry and fast, they don't run up and down trees and chatter, and yet they still love to chase them.

Rojo also does a trick called "Halt". She lands on Uncle Steve's back, and she stays there.

That is pretty good! I could do it if I wanted to. HMPH!
Frodo and Muna are frisbee crazy too.
Muna was doing weaves through Uncle's legs.

and Frodo was doing all kinds of fun tricks too, like over Uncle's leg, under him, catching two frisbees at once.

Personally I think they are all nutty. It isn't as much fun as flyball or squirreling.
Still, to each dog his own I suppose.

Mom is very sad. Her friend Shahna left us on Canada Day. She went to Rainbow Bridge Mom said, to help the animals cross over. Her work here was finished, but there is more for her to do at the bridge. Mom says that Shahna was a warrior, a very strong willed human with a heart bigger than all of outdoors. She said that Shahna was her inspiration.
It is very sad to lose a warrior. It means the soldiers left behind must continue to do her work. Shahna saved hundreds of lives...and she left behind a legacy. Mom would like it very much of you would read this, and then go to Shahna's website, and in her honour, click the paypal link, and donate to Shahna's Shelter of Hope.

We will miss you Shahna. You always were, and always will be, an angel of mercy.

I am sorry I haven't been around much. Mom has been hogging the computer a LOT these days. But lots of dogs are getting helped, so I suppose I will forgive her...THIS TIME.
Anyway...let me tell you about the exciting day I had!
I have a friend named Caelen. Caelen is owned by a very pretty German Shorthaired Pointer named Hunter.

He comes to flyball, and he not only trains his own dog, but he helps Mom train other dogs, and he also runs Muna. He is very smart little human and I like him a lot. He gives me tasty treats when I do tricks for him.
Caelen asked Mom if she would go to his school, and teach the kids about rescue. Mom said "Of course! It will be fun!"
So off we trotted to Caelen's school. There were a lot of kids there, but I wasn't nervous at all. I did my tricks for Caelen, and the kids really liked me!
I jumped into Mom's arms, and you can see by the look on their faces, they were all very impressed!

I waved, held hands (paws) with Mom, did "stick em up" for the kids...

And then there was a little human who was very scared of dogs. Mom wanted to show him that most dogs are very good, and not scary at all. He was very brave, and he came up and petted me. I liked him very much.

I hope one day I can go back and visit all the mini-humans at Caelen's school.
Thank you for inviting us Caelen! Mom was glad to teach the kids about rescue, and how to be nice to us dogs.

There are many things that can make a dog crabby...like having your chewy stash infiltrated, or having a bath after a lovely roll in some fragrant cow business. But nothing compares to the irritating little creatures called WOOD TICKS.
HATES them we do Precious! They are creepy, nasty little things. They get in our ears, they attach themselves to us and make us itchy. Mom says I am allergic tot hem. Everywhere one bites me, I get a yucky lump and it gets infected.
Mom makes us sit down and she does "wood tick check". I don't mind that so much. It feels good when she runs her fingers through my fur. But when she finds one it doesn't feel so good. She pulls it off and shows it to me. I jump around and act silly, and then we start all over again.
I hate wood ticks.

Meet Ruby...Ruby is a dog that owns Mom's friend Charlie.
Charlie is owned by two dogs, Ruby and Mac. Mom calls Ruby "Woobies" and Mac Macaroni.
Woobies is a mix, and Mac is a Border Collie.
They are both very fortunate dogs. You see, both of them came from very bad beginnings, but both of them got a Dad who chose to take the time and patience to work with them. Not every human would you know. Most would just give up, not seeing the gem hiding within the rock.
Sometimes things happen to dogs that make them behave badly. Woobies used to get very aggressive with other dogs. Mac did as well. But Uncle Charlie worked with them, and never gave up, and because of that they are both very good dogs.
Woobies is a lot like me. We both love to climb trees, and we both love to chase squirrels.

While the other dogs are running and playing, Woobies and I do our own thing. We also both really enjoy a nice mud bath.

Ahhhh...there's nothing like a lovely batch of sludge to make a girl feel young and vibrant!
Yes, Woobies and I have a great deal in common. I rather enjoy our little excursions together.
