Hi! My name is Gracie. I just started my new life after being dumped on the Interstate with a broken leg the day before Easter. I've been really scared and lonely, but lots of folks have been working hard to convince me that not all people are scarey. My new mom named me Gracie because she says it is only by the Grace of God that I survived my ordeal and am now safe and happy at her house. My mom and I would like to say thank you to all the folks that helped us out. We want to say a great big thank you to the folks at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and to Sally at Hull's Haven Border Collie Rescue. We believe you are all God's angels!Friends

Today is Tuesday and my mom took me to a special doctor to look at my leg. I was a little scared at first, but all the people there were really nice. Dr. Riemer even sat on the floor and talked to me real nice. It hurt when he was checking my sore leg, but I was a good girl and let him do everything he had to do. My mom promised me that he was our friend and would make me feel better. She hasn't lied to me yet, so I was even good and held real still when they took x-rays of my legs. Then Dr. Riemer talked to my mom some more and he wrapped my leg up in a fancy red splint. The bad news is that I have a small tear in my knee and my foot has lots of broken bones. No wonder I don't like to stand on it! The good news is that it's the kind of break and tear that can heal on its own without surgery. Dr. Riemer told my mom to be sure to keep me quiet for the next 3-4 weeks. HA! That will be a good trick! I'm ready to play with my new brothers and sisters. I'll try to behave for my mom, but I can't guarantee anything!
My mom was kissing my head and crying a little bit tonight. I tried to lick her tears off her face, but she told me not to worry because they were tears of joy. She said she is so happy that I'm okay and she is so thankful for everyone's help that it makes her cry. Weird, huh? She keeps telling me how much she loves me and how many other people love me. I must be pretty special for so many people to love me like this. So, me and my mom want to tell you all thank you for caring about us and for helping us. Thank you to my mom's boy, Luke, her friend Joe, and my aunties in Canada at Hull's Haven; thank you to Dr. Rohret and Dr. Riemer and all the nice gals in their offices; thank you to the folks at Right Turn Pet Food Store and Cowboy Up; thank you to the Chief of Police in DeSoto and the Mayor of DeSoto; thank you to the State Patrol for not shooting me; and thank you especially to Janet, Josh, and Tom at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa - mom says she couldn't have helped me so much without all of you. Tonight we are going to pray that God blesses you all as much as He has blessed us. We love you guys!!!!

It's Monday and my new mom had to go to work today. We all watched her get ready for work. Buddy guards the shower door while she is in there. None of us know why she goes in there everyday, but we are all relieved when she comes back out. When it was time for her to leave, she put my 2 brothers and 2 sisters in the doggie daycare part of house. They have their own beds in there and they even have their own door that goes outside to the yard. Mom says I can't spend the day back there yet because I'm too new and she is worried that Scout won't be nice while she is away. I was really sad to see my mom leave, but she promised to come back for me. I got to spend the dat with her roommate until he went to work at noon. He promised to come back, too. I had to spend the rest of the day in a kennel, but it was big and had a really soft bed, toys and a yummy bone. I was starting to get worried, but my mom came home just like she promised. I was so happy to see her that I wagged my whole body! Then I got to play with my new pack outside. We had a really great dinner again like we have every night. I like this new routine. I like this new home and my new mommy. I think I'll stay here now and stop looking for my old owner. My mom was right...God's grace has covered me like a warm cozy blanket.

Hi! Boy do I have a story to tell!
The day before Easter, I was dumped on an on-ramp to Interstate 80 in DeSoto, Iowa. A lady saw it happen and tried to catch me, but I was scared and ran away from her. I decided I better stay nearby, though, because I was sure my owner would came back for me. I found lots of hiding places on the hill between the on-ramp and interstate. I kept seeing that lady drive by everyday, but I kept hiding from her. About 3 days later, there was a really bad storm, so I took shelter under the bridge of the interstate. That's when that lady saw me again. She parked her car and tried to catch me again, but I was too scared and ran away. I didn't go far, though, because I was still sure my owner was coming back for me. I saw the lady put a blanket and a big bowl of food under the bridge for me. Boy, I was sure hungry and the blanket was warm, but I kept hiding and waiting for my owner to come back. A few days later, that lady found me again. She was up on my hill and almost stepped on me while I was sleeping in the tall weeds. I stood up and looked her for a long time. I didn't know what to do, so I barked once and ran away. I didn't go far, though, because I was still waiting for my owner to come back for me. That lady brought more food later that day. I watched and waited for her to leave before I ate all the food. The lady kept bringing food, whistling for me and walking around under the bridge and up on the hill, but I kept hiding from her. One day, I man was under the bridge with a big trap. I was trying to hide, but he saw me. I ran away from him, too, because I was sure my owner would be back for me soon. That night the lady came back and put more food out for me. There was food in the trap, but I was too scared to get it. The next day, another lady was on my hill calling for me. She put food in the trap, too, but I didn't let her see me because I was waiting for my owner to come back for me. Later that night, the 1st lady came back and put some really yummy ham in the trap. She was watching for me, but I saw her and I kept hiding. I waited until she was gone before I went in the trap to get the ham. It was really scary because the door shut on the trap and I couldn't get out. I wasn't trapped very long before the lady came back and took me home. I was really scared, but she was really nice and gave me lots of food and fresh water. She brought me into her house and slept with me the rest of the night. It was really nice to have someone to cuddle up with. She took me to the vet to get my leg fixed. I was really worried that she wouldn't come back, but she picked me up at the end of the day and brought me home. They can't fix my leg until Tuesday, so the lady (my new mommy) has been taking good care of me while we wait for Tuesday. I give her lots of happy kisses, so she knows how happy I am.
Yesterday, I finally met all of the other furry companions that live here. There are 4 dogs and 6 cats here, so I have lots of new friends. Patches is my new best friend. I like Taz, too. Scout is sort of mean and tries to poke me with her nose, but my new mom squirts her with water and she stops. Buddy is the biggest dog here and he's sort of grumpy, but I follow him around anyway. I wish my leg felt better because I sure would like to chase all the cats that are here. I'm having an operation on Tuesday, to fix my leg. So, I'll be able to chase those kitties soon enough! I got a bath yesterday, too. I didn't really like it, but I was really good and stood still for my mom. She keeps kissing me and telling me how sweet and soft I am now, so I guess the bath wasn't so bad afterall. She keeps telling me I'm too skinny, too, and then gives me treats. I like it here! It's nap time now and I have my choice of couches, doggie beds, and people beds to lay on. This sure beats trying to sleep in the weeds by the interstate! I really like having lots of food, a warm bed, and lots of attention, but I still look out the window to see if my owner is out there looking for me.
