My name is Virginia (Ginny for short). I was transported from Little Rock, AR to PA this summer (2006) at age 13 to come live with a forever family. I had been dropped off at a shelted and a loving man took care of me for 2 months before helping me arrive in PA. I am blind. Someone took good care of me before I went to the shelter, because my one eye had been removed already, and my other eye, although blind, was not infected or anything. I am starting to learn many new freedoms like how to use a doggie door and find my way around a large fenced yard. I love to nap with my human companions and play with my towel in themorning when I wake up. I have a lot of spunk for a 13 year old. Maybe I bump into a lot things but I am getting better at mapping every day. I drink like 3 cups of water at night - a huge amount actually - right before going to bed. It is my passage to bedtime. I don't have to get up during the night either. This has my "new dad" baffled, but hey - he says, if it works for me, it works for him. I weigh 15 pounds, so everybody coos over how cute I am. I get a lot of attention, and I like that!Blog
One thing I love is food! Yep - you might think that is because I'm a beagle and beagles LOVE to eat! But it is also because I eat well and it is a real treat to have special meals in between eating Sensible Choice kibble.
Like today. Today my friends and I got a special meal of Sojourner Farms mixed with green beans and tripe.
Tripe is very yummy and because it now comes diced, it is easier to fix. Yes, diced scalded tripe went for $1.27 a pound, so the package, which weighed 3.04 pounds cost $3.86. Tripe that is not pre-cut requires a lot of work to cut because it can be pretty firm, although we love tripe in strips too!
Anyway, my human companions get a real kick out of the fact that Sojos costs $1.80 a pound and green beans go for 88 cents a can, so altogether, 3 cans of green beans, the tripe package (cooked of course in the microwave and cooled before serving), plus the sojos came to $10.25 divided by 17 of us, equals 59 cents each. That is the same price as canned dog food on average and way more natural and healthy!
I'd rather eat natural than canned any day if I had the choice! Of course, I know that fixing such a gourmet meal is not something I expect everyday with the busy lives my human companions lead, but several times a week works for me! Yum Yum!
